Leigh and I were recently lucky enough to have a break away with some good friends for some good rugby! We were spending the night in Gloucester and booked a Travelodge – we felt it was a reasonable deal and the location was just what we wanted.

St Weonards vs the Travelodge1

Travelling back home we were mulling over our stay and how it compared to what we offer at St Weonards.

Our reservation cost £51.00 (room only) for a double room. We arrived at midday and asked if we could check-in. We were told this was not a problem but there was a £10 early check-in fee. Check in at St Weonards starts at 1pm but we are happy for people to check-in early, without charge. If the rooms are ready guests can get straight in – if not we can hand over the keys and message the guest when the room is ready for them. There is no charge for this – or the tea and coffee that we offer to all our guests on arrival. As you might suspect we were not offered refreshments at the Travelodge.

Breakfast at the Travelodge is not included but charged at an additional £8.75 for an all you can eat buffet (kids under 15 eat free). Breakfast at St Weonards is always included in our rates. We decided that the buffet wasn’t for us so went to a local restaurant where we paid £25 for our breakfast.

Parking in the multi-storey next to the Travelodge is offered at discounted rate of £6 per 24 hours. At St Weonards we offer free parking to everyone that books with us direct.

The room itself was a good size, a comfortable bed, a desk and a chair. A wardrobe solution and an en-suite shower which was generally quite clean. There was a reasonable TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Here we were disappointed. The Travelodge provided the absolute minimum in this selection – four tea bags, four coffee sticks, four sugar sticks and four jiggers of milk. At St Weonards we like to provide Decaff tea and coffee as well as regular. We also provide amply supplies of milk and sugar as well as a bit of a treat

with hot chocolate and cappuccino! Hairdryers are available at the Travelodge – if you request them at reception. At St Weonards we provide both a hairdryer and straighteners in every room.We also provide free WiFi throughout our building with a network of hubs. WiFi at the Travelodge is also free – for half an hour after which it is charged at £3 for 24 hours.

The Travelodge has a restaurant and bar which we do not have at St Weonards. We do though have our new honesty bar and we offer evening meals and packed lunches at a really great price, on request.

If we had chosen to eat in the Travelodge in total our overnight stay would have cost £84.50.

At St Weonards our standard double costs from £45 – £77 depending on season. This always includes our fabulous breakfast, free WiFi and parking.

So, for a warm welcome, hearty food, great facilities and good value for money we decided we would recommend St Weonards! Book direct at www.stweonardshotel.co.uk
